Methylamines
Our technology for methylamines, based upon the world renowned Leonard Process, is well proven over many years in the majority of the world's operating plants. The process has continued to be refined and now offers a highly cost effective and reliable design with low environmental impact. Careful catalyst selection and process design provide wide flexibility to select the optimum ratio of the three products (mono, di, and tri methylamine) depending on the particular market demand. High catalyst efficiency ensures high product qualities with low utility costs and minimised effluents. Our plant technology may be tailored to produce both anhydrous product and the more easily transported aqueous material.

Methylamines are produced by reacting ammonia with methanol at an elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of a catalyst. A mixture of three amines is formed, Monomethylamine (MMA), Dimethylamine (DMA) and Trimethylamine (TMA). They are separated and purified by distillation. Our specialist process simulation capability allows us to optimise plant design to take into account the large number of azeotropes and non-ideal separations inherent in methylamines manufacture. This capability is available to existing producers for the evaluation of cost effective expansion opportunities. We the have full process engineering capability to licence cost effective amine technologies with performance guarantees for the following amine products: Dimethyl Formamide, Choline Chloride, N Methyl Pyrrolidone, Ethanolamines and Alkyl Alkanolamines.
